We just came back from seeing her in the ICU, they let all of us in because it was the first visit. At all other times it is going to be two to three people, immediate family only, in her room at a time for up to fifteen minutes once and hour at any time except between 6-8 AM and 6-8 PM for shift change. She is definitely going to be in the ICU for over 24 hrs due to her Aorta splitting.
We also learned a lot from the nurse. She was admitted to the ICU at 2:40 PM. She only lost about 330ml (~1 1/3 cups) of blood, something the nurses said was good. She is not going to be put on an anti-coagulant for a while, at least a couple hours, to make sure she won't bleed out. When she is it will probably be aspirin. Her heart volume is low, although not a big thing they are filling it up with what looks to be saline.
When we went in she opened her eyes from time to time and she was moving. They had to restrain her because she was trying to pull out the breathing tube but that's normal. At this point her heart rate was in the low 90s but when we left it was in the low 60s, also normal though. She also wasn't responding to commands like "Curl you toes" or "Squeeze my finger", although this could be for many reasons, at first it was because they didn't have her hearing aide in but once they put it in she still didn't respond, this could be because she is disoriented, something that the nurses say is quite common, or her motor function is not completely back but that is also quite normal too. They also put her on morphine to ease the pain. Her Kidneys seem to be doing extremely well. She is letting the machine breathe for her completely and that is normal for her age, the surgery, and morphine.
